Animal Island — Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

2. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Animal Island is designed for children under 13. We comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent regulations worldwide.

• We do not collect personal information from children (no names, emails, photos, or accounts).
• We do not require registration or sign-up.
• We do not use third-party advertising or behavioral tracking.
• We do not include social features, chat, or user-generated content.
• We do not share any data with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. What Data We Collect

We collect only the minimum data needed for the game to function:

a) Anonymous Device Identifier

When the app first launches, it generates a random identifier (UUID) stored on your device. This is used only to save and restore your game progress. It is not linked to your identity or any personal information.

b) Coarse Location Only (with permission)

If you grant location permission, the app requests coarse (reduced-accuracy) location only — not precise GPS coordinates. This approximate location is sent to our server solely to look up the current weather for your area. We use the weather to create the in-game environment.

• The app uses iOS reduced accuracy mode — we never request or receive precise coordinates.
• Even coarse coordinates are not stored on our servers.
• We store only a general country code (e.g., "FI" for Finland) and climate zone (e.g., "northern temperate").
• If you decline location permission, the game uses a seasonal fallback — location is entirely optional.

c) Game Save Data

Your island state (placed objects, resources, animals) is saved locally on your device and optionally backed up to our cloud server. This contains only gameplay data, no personal information.

d) Anonymous Gameplay Events

We collect anonymous gameplay events (e.g., "an animal arrived", "an object was placed") to understand how the game is played and improve it. These events are linked only to the anonymous device identifier and contain no personal information.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following services to operate the game:

• Supabase (database and server functions) — hosts game saves and anonymous analytics. Supabase Privacy Policy
• WeatherAPI.com (weather data) — provides current weather conditions. Your location is sent through our server, not directly from your device. WeatherAPI Privacy Policy

We do not use any third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or social media integrations.

5. Data Storage and Security

• Game data is stored on servers provided by Supabase (cloud infrastructure).
• All network communication uses HTTPS encryption.
• Database access is restricted so that each device can only access its own data.
• We retain anonymous gameplay data for up to 12 months, after which it may be deleted.

6. Data Deletion

Since we do not collect personal information, there is typically nothing personal to delete. However:

• Deleting the app removes all local game data from your device.
• To request deletion of cloud-stored game data, email hello@animalisland.fun with your request. We will delete the data within 30 days.

7. Parental Rights

Parents and guardians may:

• Review the data associated with their child's device by contacting us.
• Request deletion of any stored data.
• Revoke location permission at any time through device settings.
